Title: Console Operator Development and Evaluation (CODE)
Client: Major Petroleum Company
Requirement: Design a PC-based assessment tool that can be used to assess the effectiveness of the company's console operator workforce.
Solution: The company hired JPS to design a PC-based training and assessment tool for their console operator workforce. Working from task inventories, critical incidents, and a model of operator performance, JPS designed the Console Operator Development and Evaluation or CODE.

CODE is a completely automated, high-fidelity, PC-based simulation of an oil refinery. The program closely duplicates the functionality and multiple screens available on the actual worker's console.

CODE has been validated for use as a job qualification tool in a study involving over 100 console operators. Statistically significant correlations were found between performance on the tool and ratings of supervisory performance.
