| A chemical manufacturing plant in Texas is building a new control center that will house staff from two different company units. Currently, staff in these two units work out of different control centers. JPS was hired to assist the plant, collect data, and develop a plan to integrate the two distinct cultures.
JPS used a number of methods to collect data for this project. We reviewed documents describing the units and the exempt jobs. We then conducted interviews with several members of the exempt staff and developed job task inventories. Finally, we reviewed the literature in relevant areas of culture, organizational mergers, and change management.
JPS provided data to officials indicating the issues of highest concern to members of the two units. We identified policies and procedures that we recommended be changed as part of the integration. We proposed changes in job duties and work processes. We advised management on the communications that workers in the unit needed. We proposed a new staffing plan for the exempt staff. We also recommended a formal structure for the plant to adopt in managing the integration process.
