Title: Transition of Separating Service Members to Healthcare Careers
Agency: U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)
Requirement: Develop a program that will assist veterans transitioning into the civilian workforce in Maryland.
Solution: JPS was hired by the Department of Labor to develop a program that will assist military service members in transition to the civilian workforce in Maryland.

Research indicated that Maryland hospitals are experiencing significant shortage of support personnel, while many locally separating service members looking for jobs had the necessary medical training. Our staff conducted job analyses and skills requirements of several medical professions. We also worked closely with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Navy Hospital to determine medical training and experience of separating service members. We then matched civilian medical careers with appropriate military designations.  At the same time, we collaborated with the Governor's Workforce Investment Board, local hospitals, certifying institutions, and educational facilities.

The result of this effort was a comprehensive guide that is currently used in Maryland to assist separating military service members in finding employment in the civilian medical sector.
