| The Navy Applicant Management Information System (NAMIS) project was launched in fiscal year 2006 to develop new technology to better screen, train, and manage recruiters assigned to the Delayed Entry Program (DEP). NAMIS is designed to help reduce early attrition and improve the knowledge and capabilities of recruits. JPS is a subcontractor to ASM Research in this effort.
JPS contributed to three efforts in FY 2006 A priority for the Navy is to improve the screening and training of recruits for such programs as SEALs, SWCC, EOD, Diver, and Air Rescue. JPS documented the enlistment pipeline process and developed new non-cognitive tools to support screening and reduce attrition from these programs.
A second effort was to provide on-line training to recruits while in the DEP. JPS designed and build 14 interactive, web-based modules to cover the Personnel Qualification Standards (PQS). These modules cover such topics as rank and recognition, Navy history, first-aid, physical fitness standards, and Navy terminology. This is a high visibility training effort and we anticipate between 10,000 and 20,000 recruits a year could complete these modules.
The Navy is also interested in ways to better assess those recruits that will be successful and those who will struggle to learn in a modern electronic, self-paced learning environment. JPS took the lead in the development of a measure of active-learning and designed a study to validate this measure and determine its potential value for the Navy. |
